Dr Greggory Burrow - Specialist Shoulder and Knee Surgeon

MBBS FRACS Orthopaedics

I specialise in Arthroscopic Reconstructive and Replacement Surgery of the Shoulder and Knee.

I graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School and completed internship and residency at RPA Hospital Sydney. During my medical degree I had the great good fortune to be selected as a Wallaby in Rugby Union, and toured with the Grand Slam and Bledisloe Cup winning teams of 1984 and 1986. As part of my medical training I was sponsored by the Royal Australian Navy and began service in 1990 including 6 months at sea with Fleet Units deployed in South East Asia. I then returned to Australia, and completed Orthopaedic Surgical Training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and gained my Fellowship in Orthopaedics in 1996. In 1997 I returned to the Navy as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and completed my service obligations. At the same time I took subspecialty Fellowships in Shoulder Surgery with Dr Des Bokor in Sydney, and in the United Kingdom at Epsom & Guildford Hospitals, Surrey, with Dr Danny Mok. I also completed a Fellowship in Knee Surgery with Dr David Wood at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre.

In 1999 I began full-time private practice at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, and was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Sydney Hospital. I was the club doctor for the North Sydney Bears Rugby League Club and was previously with the Northern Suburbs Rugby Union Club. I have been involved in research studying shoulder instability in sportsmen, elbow arthritis and clavicle fracture trauma, presenting at state and national meetings.

I have held positions with Australian Orthopaedic Association including Secretary of the New South Wales Board Of Studies and the Fellowship committee. I have been Chairman of the orthopaedic departments of Sydney and Castlecrag Private Hospitals and am currently the Orthopaedic representative on the Patient Care Review Committee at the Mater Hospital. I have participated in the training of Australian Orthopaedic Surgeons and have been Fellowship supervisor for trainee shoulder surgeons from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Japan at North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre.

I have a huge interest in my children's activities including helping at football and netball, and go surfing, sailing, fishing and skiing, whenever there's a gap in the kids' Saturday sport!

I would be delighted to review your shoulder and knee condition with regards to surgical treatment or even just to provide a second opinion on a particular problem.
